Compression for the win!

11 Jan

I have been experiencing bad leg cramps with the cold weather and trying to build up my running. I am big on research and finding things to help me improve on my technique, help me to stay warm, or something that will aid in my recovery time. I was lucky enough after reading a few running blogs to learn about compression sleeves. I decided to give it a try and went down to Sports Chalet today. They only carried one brand, ADIDAS. I had the choice between calf sleeves or full socks. I decided to try the sleeves this time around but I can tell you that I will be going back for socks (I love socks). They made a world of difference in today’s jogging. I completed 2.5 miles, did not cramp up at all, and it was cold out (by Phoenix standards). I am still using my foam roller as well (see earlier post) and it also makes a huge difference in warming up and stretching my sore legs. I kind of feel like a wimp as I complain about sore muscles, especially when I am only running 5k’s or less but I think that is just part of being a beginner. We all start out as armatures at some point and have to rely on the advice and expertise of others in hopes or reaching our goals. I am just happy that I am seeing daily improvements and am learning as I go.

Hey cuz…I get calf leg cramps even at the peak of my training, so, do not worry because you are a far cry from a wimp. The compression socks and sleeves are great!!! Good job, Sara! I’m very proud of you!
